News: DS To Rule The World?

Analysts are predicting that DS sales may eventually overtake that of the PS2.

Everyone knows analysts love to make predictions. Some analysts are denouncing the Wii as just a gimmick, whilst others are labelling it the greatest thing since mushy peas on toast. Of course, at the end of the day, it is just a prediction, it doesn't mean it will happen. Do not be alarmed by the title of this news post, the DS will not reach Godzilla like proportions and cause havoc upon our lovely Planet, but sales have been gargantuan thus far. The high sales are causing one or two analysts to look at the potential of the DS in terms of sales.

DFC Analyst David Cole predicts that "The DS has the potential to be the best-selling interactive entertainment platform ever." Has to be said, we've all been very surprised at how well the system has taken off, and we're the Nintendo faithful. We can't imagine how those lovely chaps at Sony are feeling.

According to Cole, despite the fact that PSP sales are trailing that of the DS, both systems have the potential to out-gun its home console counterparts. The install base of the PSP and DS could, by 2011, be greater than that of the PS3, Wii and Xbox360.

As far as current sales go, from November 2004, the DS has roughly sold about 40 million units worldwide. The Sony Playstation 2 has shipped a staggering 111 Million Units worldwide, which is not an easy target to beat.
