News: EA Announce GoldenEye!

EA have announced that they will be creating and in-house game developed around the 1995 James Bond film Goldeneye!

That's right, folks, GoldenEye will live again! EA have decided to make full use of their publishing rights to the James Bond franchise and create a game based on an existing James Bond film.

Traditionally, EA-developed Bond games have been created based around original plotlines and characters. But this time they've decided to work on the popular film licence, which made its' exclusive outing on the Nintendo 64, developed by Rare. Interesting to note that EA have recently formed a deal to publish Timesplitters 3, developed by Free Radical which is formed principally by ex-Rare members.

However, EA were quick to dent any speculation that the game would be developed by Free Radical -members of which formed the core of the GoldenEye team when the game was developed by Rare. An EA spokesman had this to say:

"Free Radical is not working on any James Bond games for EA. We have no plans at the present time to place Bond with another third party that we're working with - Bond products are currently being developed at our Redwood Shores and Los Angeles offices."

Those of you hoping for an update of Rares classic are going to be disappointed, however: this is NOT going to be a "GoldenEye: Directors cut" this will be an entirely new game developed by the in-house development studios in America.

It will be interesting to see the reaction of the gaming public to the news that one of gamings best-loved sons is now to be made anew by the worlds largest third party publisher.
