News: EA Exec Wants Single Gaming Platform

One dedicated gaming platform within fifteen years? Hmm...
Electronic Art's Executive Vice President and General Manager of International Publishing Gerhard Florin has two things of interest about him. The first is that his job title is probably the longest we've ever heard of. The second is that he wants the current system of rival, incompatible consoles, to have ended in another fifteen years.
"We want an open, standard platform which is much easier than having five which are not compatible. You don't need an Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii - the consumer won't even realise the platform it is being played on," he said in an interview with BBC.
Instead of different types of consoles, one powerful set-top box would handle all types of console games, thus eliminating the development time of having to make versions of games for different consoles.
