News: EA Favours DS Over PSP

"Consumers have proven that actually what they want is fun."

Yet another week has passed, and support for Nintendo's DS just seems to be unstoppable. This time, EA's David Gardner, executive VP and COO of worldwide studios, believes that the PSP is falling behind the DS, and that Sony cannot afford to make any more mistakes.

"I don't think Sony can afford to sit back," Gardner told MCV. "I think they still have things they can do with the price and performance of the machine things that they need to address."

Before the release of both systems, the horsepower of the PSP proved to be a hit with many developers. Many were looking forward to creating graphically spectacular games, with immense sound. However, is this really what the consumer looks for in a handheld gaming device? Apparantly not, according to Gardner: "There's no doubt that EA has historically bet more on PSP. I think we were excited by the technology, but the consumers have proven that actually what they want is fun. We must never forget that what we need to focus on is fun and so EA is putting more effort behind DS games and creative ones that really take advantage of the hardware."

It never hurts to have one of the leading third party developers and publishers praise your system, so you count on the fact that Nintendo will be jumping for joy in their head offices. The future of the DS is looking very bright, indeed.
