The EA Games label President has stated that the company is not intending to return to video games based on films.
In a recent conversation with Develop Frank Gibeau, President of EA Games, spoke about the numerous big changes occurring at EA Games at present. Mr. Gibeau commented that the company no longer feel it is in their best interest to create video games based upon films.
While the company previously worked on franchises such as the James Bond series Mr. Gibeau commented, "the days of licensed-based, 75-rated games copies are dead like the dinosaur". He continued to add that EA Games dumped the James Bond license because they felt that they needed more of their own intellectual properties.
The amount of requirements and the number of limitations posed also apparently played a role in this decision. According to Frank Gibeau the money earned from these titles also do not make them worthwhile. While they tend to sell well the margins have been squeezed so much that the publishers see very little of the profits.
It seems that EA, once criticised for producing nothing but sequels and tie-ins, are looking to change their business plan and make quality titles.
