News: EA Launches Trax

EA has started a partner program with record labels that will include placing some songs in games before they are released on albums or as singles.

Electronic Arts said the EA Trax program includes songs by rap artists like Snoop Dog and Method Man on upcoming basketball, football, hockey, soccer and stock car racing games.

The company also said the program's first song will hit stores next week, with the debut of a Bon Jovi single entitled "Everyday" on the soundtrack for "Madden NFL 2003."

The new program may include co-promotions with the labels on both CD and game releases, and said compilation discs will be issued featuring game soundtracks.

GameCube Europe got the opportunity to see Trax in action in a game, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2, during a visit at EA's hq. Everytime when a new song kicks in you will see a Trax info bar appear giving you some info on the song.
