News: EA Says Wii U Can Do What PS3/360 Can

EA get new development kits for the Wii U and claim it can do anything the PS3 and 360 can do.

Following on from EA Play suggesting the Wii U will help re-imagine games EA's vice president Andrew Wilson has told Eurogamer that Nintendo's new console can in fact do "anything" that the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 can. Mr. Wilson informs Eurogamer about how with every new development kit a company gets the better they understand the console and this is why he is now able to say the Wii U can do anything the PS3 and 360 can:

"As every new piece of hardware and every new development library comes through we get a greater understanding of the power. With our early research we had been very happy with the output of the box and we expect that that will only go up moving forward."

Mr. Wilson notes that the very nature of the Wii U, with the ability to utilise two screens, means it is a new challenge but they are "looking forward to that challenge". While he acknowledges that the Wii U can replicate anything they can do for the other consoles Eurogamer asks shouldn't the console be able to do more considering the 360 is six years old and the PS3 is five years old? Andrew Wilson responds by claiming that they hope so but they're still in the early stages.

The new dev kit is also said to give more insight into the console's online structure. Several EA staff are working very closely with Nintendo to help ensure the infrastructure is as it should be.

"[Online is] something that we're working very closely with Nintendo on. We are highlighting to them what we believe are the most important elements to that infrastructure to deliver a connected experience that we think is the future of gaming. They have demonstrated an openness and willingness to work with us and work with developers that I think will only land us in a positive place."

EA has yet to confirm any launch titles for the Wii U because they are, just like everyone else, waiting to find out more. FIFA 13 is a possibility but Mr. Wilson states that the core team is still finalising FIFA 12 and with new technology such as the Wii U and Kinect they are exploring new avenues.
