A once-expected release for Japanese classic Earthbound now seems very unlikely... Full details inside.

Last May we reported how the ERSB (American ratings board) had approved the original Earthbound for release on the Wii's Virtual Console download service, and much rejoicing was had. Now however, it appears that joy was short-lived.

According to Starman.net, delays and problems hit the title, as Nintendo of America wanted changes to the game's many pop-culture references (notably those found in the musical score). Nintendo of Japan apparently refused, and the demo of the title was removed from Smash Bros. Brawl outside of Japan.

Now the official line is that the ERSB rating was "a mistake". Sad news indeed for Earthbound fans, who it seems must now return to Brawl to play as Nes or Lucas on the Wii.
