News: ESRB Ratings Improved

The ESRB have changed their game ratings to make sure parents know what their children are playing.

The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) have changed the rating system on games to ensure parents know just what their children are playing. Game rating and contents have to be shown on the box of the game so that people know what they are buying.

ESRB decided that the word "violence", which was previously used on game boxes, was too vague so they have changed it. It is now split into four types of violence.

  • Cartoon Violence- Violence involving cartoon-looking characters. May include violence where the character is unharmed after the action.
  • Fantasy Violence- Violence involving fantasy characters, human or non-human in situations which are easily distinguishable from real life.
  • Intense Violence- Graphic or realistic depiction of violence. This includes blood, gore, weapons and humans injured or killed.
  • Sexual Violence- Depicts rape or other sexual violence.

The age rating system has also been tweaked, it now includes 17+ and 18+ which are the legal ages of which games can be rented of sold. All changes are effective immediately.
