News: Europe To Have Plentiful Stock Of Wii

There should be "more stock than we've ever had" available in Europe for the launch of the Wii, boasts Nintendo UK David Yarnton. More inside.

Speaking to Eurogamer, the boss of Nintendo in the UK David Yarnton has said this Christmas' Wii launch on December 8th will have more stock available than in any other launch in Nintendo's history, though shortages were always going to be inevitable. "20 million wouldn't be enough" he said.

He emphasised that Europe is a very important market, citing the four million units of Nintendogs sold to date in Europe alone, with almost six million units of DS Hardware too. "[With Wii] we're looking at about four million units before the end of the year globally and Europe will get a reasonable proportion of that. The stock that we're looking to get we believe will probably be more than we've ever had for any console launch. But from the feedback we've had from our retailers, whatever we have won't be enough as the demand from people is really heating up for it."

Yarnton refused to comment on exactly how many Wii units Europe will recieve and the proportion of that number compared to other regions, though he said meetings would be held with retailers in mid-October to determine this information.
