News: European and Japanese eShop Launch Details

Free Excitebike, plus a multitude of Game Boy titles, as well as 3D classics and original games

Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of Japan have just released details about which games will be available for download from the eShops in their respective regions when they launch on 7 June. As previously reported, the store will become available via a software update that will be released on that date, and will provide Virtual Console games, 3D Classics, and original titles created for 3DS.

In Europe, Nintendo have announced that Excitebike will be available for free until 7 July in celebration of the eShop launch. This is the first 3D Classics title that has been confirmed for the European eShop, and may end up being the only one available at launch.

Several Virtual Console titles that will be available from launch have also been announced. These include Super Mario Land, Alleyway, and Tennis, which were all developed by Nintendo. No pricing details have been announced for any of these, however it is possible that they will fall into line with the Japanese price of 400 yen.

Finally, as previously announced, Pokedex 3D will also be available for free as an original title. It remains to be seen as to whether any third-party content will be available at launch, however with not very long left until the eShop launch, it is looking increasingly unlikely. Nintendo have also confirmed that the European eShop will be updated every Thursday.

Meanwhile in Japan, the Virtual Console titles that will be available at launch are all Game Boy titles, and will all be priced at 400 yen:

  • Mega Man in Dr Wily's Revenge (Capcom)
  • Kirby's Dream Land (Nintendo)
  • Baseball (Nintendo)
  • Phantasm (Jaleco)
  • Downtown Special Kunio-kun no Jidaigeki Dayo Zenin Shuugou! (Arc)
  • Super Mario Land (Nintendo)

Joining the previously confirmed Excitebike in Japan (which will be available for free until 31 July) in the 3D Classics section of the store will be Xevious, another Nintendo title, which will be sold for 600 yen.

Finally, the Japanese eShop will also feature two original titles: Mystery P.I. Kieta Film, developed by G Mode and available for 600 yen, as well as 3D Block Kuzushi, which has been created by Silverstar Japan, and is downloadable for 500 yen.

Nintendo have also re-iterated that the software update will also bring the 3DS browser, as well as the DSiWare transfer software.

With only a few days left before the global roll-out of the eShop, there shouldn't be too long to wait for the American line-up to also be announced.
