News: European GameCube Price Drop!Posted 22 Apr 2002 at 06:55 by guestWooot! The GameCube is also dropping in price! A week after Xbox announced their much speculated price drop, Nintendo has gone and done the same thing! The GameCube will now be available at launch accross Europe for 199 euros, or 123 (US$177). Dropping from 250 euros this equates to a saving of 50 euros! However, in the Netherlands, the price will be slightly higher than the rest of Europe, due to higher taxes. The price there will be between 209 and 219 Euros. This is obviously an attempt to spoil any hype that the Xbox price drop will receive, truely making the GameCube worth it's price. One still has to wonder what Sony are going to do about their obviously overpriced console. Rumours are that Sony will announce something within the week. Here's the official press release from Nintendo Europe:NINTENDO SETS NEW PRICE FOR LAUNCH OFNINTENDO GAMECUBE ON MAY 3rd22 April 2002 - Nintendo today announced that it’s ground breaking new console, NINTENDO GAMECUBE, will launch across Europe on May 3rd at a recommended retail price of 199 Euros, and is expected to retail in the UK at 129 UK pounds. This new price is part of Nintendo’s commitment to offer the consumer an unbeatable proposition. I guess this was it, and I couldnt be happier! A saving of $70 Australian dollars! Thats almost enough for another game!Gerben: I'm very happy with this price reduction. Last week, Nintendo of Europe didn't tell us anything about lowering the price when we contacted them about Microsoft's move. I was afraid that many doubting gamers would now choose for the Xbox, and so was Nintendo apparently. The difference is now 100 Euros or a little less again, and I'm sure many gamers will now definitely choose for the best system and the lowest price. Way to go Nintendo!Tim: Nintendo really took me by suprise with their Price Drop. I did not expect it to happen yet! It's great news, and will surely help Nintendo penetrating the Console Market in Europe. Slam duck da funk!
