News: F1 Releasing on Wii U

Codemasters confirms it is bringing its critically-acclaimed F1-sim to Wii U...

In an interview with MCV, Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens has confirmed that the UK studio's popular Formula 1 sim will be heading to the Wii U. He also reconfirmed that the company's Dirt racing franchise will be hitting the system.

No word on exactly which F1 game is planned for Wii U. Odds are it will either be a late port of this year's F1 2011 or next year's inevitable F1 2012.

The last F1 game to release on a Nintendo platform was the solid-if-unspectacular F1 2009 on Wii. Last year's critically-acclaimed iteration opted to stay on HD platforms, whilst F1 2011 will be getting a run on 3DS. What we know so far about the 3DS game is that it will feature a proper career mode, but will not allow you to race full-length grand prix, allegedly due to battery life issues. Hopefully it won't skimp on the online components its home-console brethren will have. It's due to release after the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions' September launches.
