News: Fifth Hanabi Festival Imminent?

A Nintendo release listing suggests that a new Hanabi Festival could begin as soon as tomorrow.

In a rather sneaky update to the release dates section of the official Nintendo website, it has been revealed that Shanghai II: Dragon Eye, a tile-matching title for the SEGA Genesis, will be added to the Virtual Console service tomorrow.

Interestingly, Shanghai II skipped out on a European release back in the '90s, which leads us to believe that this release may herald the arrival of a fifth Hanabi Festival, and another four weeks of imported retro bliss, unless Nintendo have changed their policy on releasing imported games on the VC. Or unless this is simply a technical error on Nintendo's part.

Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber, previously exclusive to Japan and America, has also recently been rated for release on the Virtual Console by the Aussie classification board OFLC. Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes (Turbografx), Milon's Secret Castle (NES) and Street Fighter II': Champion Edition (Turbografx) have also been rated by either the PEGI or the OFLC for VC release in Europe and Australia.

Since its inception in 2007, the Virtual Console's glorious Hanabi Festival has graced the Wii Shop Channel four times, bringing with it gaming imports that had never before seen the light of day outside of Japan and/or the US.

Notable releases from previous festivals include Japanese N64 cult classic Sin & Punishment and Square's acclaimed Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, much to the joy of collectors and avid gamers alike.
