News: Final Fantasy 4 On GBA

Classic RPG Final Fantasy 4 will see a special release for the GBA/Micro this winter...

Following up on the release of Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls, a remake compilation of Final Fantasies I and II specifically for the GBA, Nintendo of America has announced today that they will be bringing Final Fantasy IV (also known as Final Fantasy II in the US) to the popular portable come this December 12th.

The game, originating on the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo, has seen phenomenal popularity as its characters and story have charmed millions of avid gamers. Though seeing a slight "enhancement" upon its port over to the PS One back in 1997, the epic finally returns to a cart-based format, free of load times and still bearing certain enhancements.

Exactly what has been added to the game is yet unknown, but it is likely that aspects that were restored to the PS One release will be utilized (a harder difficulty level, more items and a closer translation effort to the japanese original.) Also likely are additions that will make the game more portable-friendly such as an instant save and sleep functions. One thing is for sure, the GBA still has life left in it what with its sexy new makeover and a stirring comeback of one of the most beloved RPGs of the 16-bit era.

More details expected soon.
