News: Final Fantasy is 'Damaged' - Square

Square-Enix's CEO has some harsh words about the state of the company's flagship franchise...

The Final Fantasy brand has been "greatly damaged" in recent times - that's according to Square-Enix's CEO Yoichi Wada, speaking at TGS.

Wada attributed the state of affairs to the ongoing issues with MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, which has been plagued by problems since its release last year. Interestingly, Wada did not mention the also cooly-received Final Fantasy XIII, but that might be to do with the small detail of a sequel and spin-off still being in the works for that game.

In the same talk, Wada also touched upon Dragon Quest X Onlinefor Wii and Wii U. Despite the radical direction that series is taking, he confirmed that it was not indicative of the whole franchise, insisting that Dragon Quest will have plenty of offline iterations in the future.

The only Final Fantasy goodness on the near horizon for Nintendo gamers is 3DS rhythm game Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, which is actually looking rather sweet.
