The 3DS finally gets a Final Fantasy game but it may not be what people were expecting...

The Final Fantasy series has gained tremendous critical success over the years and has been enjoyed by millions of gamers. 3DS owners have been hoping that a Final Fantasy game would be released on the console and now their wish has been fulfilled, but not in the way anyone would have imaged.

Andriasang report that a brand new Final Fantasy game has been announced for the 3DS but it is a rhythm game. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, seemingly short for 'Theatre Rhythm', sees characters from across the franchise come together to return light to the crystal. Details of the storyline are sketchy but popular characters are due to return, albeit in a cute 'chibi' form.

The title is due to have field scenes set in different environments, such as towns and dungeons, and also battle scenes reminiscent of early Final Fantasy titles. Of course as this is a rhythm game you must tap along to the on-screen prompts.
