News: First Sonic Generations 3DS Details

Want to know what to expect from Sonic Generations? Well have a look below.

Yesterday it was finally confirmed that Sonic Generations was indeed coming to the 3DS, although not the Wii. The first details about the game have been unveiled in the newest issue of Nintendo Power and it is bound to please fans of the classic Sonic titles.

Tetsu Katano, director of Sonic and the Black Knight, is directing the 3DS version that is being handled by Sonic Team and Dimps, while Jun Senoue is working on the music. Sonic Generations will feature 2D side-scrolling for both Classic and Modern Sonic and while Modern Sonic plays a lot like Sonic in Sonic Colours and Sonic Rush Classic Sonic will feature momentum based platforming and gameplay.

The classic Green Hill Zone will be the only stage featured across all versions of the game and the 3DS version is set to have numerous exclusive stages and bosses, including Casino Night Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the big arm boss fight from Sonic the Hedgehog 3's Launch Base Zone. Anyone who isn't fond of additional characters may wish to pick up the 3DS version as unlike the console versions it will "only feature the ones who are integral to the story".

Modern Sonic will make more use of the 3D display than Classic Sonic. One example that is given is when Modern Sonic smashes through a totem pole and the camera pans out in front of him so you can see the destruction happening in the background as you carry on. Modern Sonic also occasionally moves between the foreground and the background during the game.

Sonic Heroes style special stages will also be featured that allow you to earn Chaos Emeralds, although whether or not this results in an appearance from Super Sonic is unknown at present.

StreetPass will be utilised and additional challenges can be unlocked using this feature and Play Coins. The 3DS version also includes an exclusive two-player race mode across a local wireless connection.

Expect more details at the upcoming E3 conference but let us know what you think of these initial details in the comments section below.
