Nintendo have opened the official Japanese website for Forever Blue, head over there for some new videos.
Forever Blue lets you explore an underwater world at will, and lets you study both plantlife and fish (plus the odd underwater mammal). You swim around using the pointer to direct your diver - similar to Heatseeker (so, not point & click). When you stop, you can look around in a first person view, and then use the pointer to "stroke" fish. Doing so will give you the name of the species. On top of this, you can also use items such as fish food - using a combination of fish food and stroking will cause a fish to be "happy", which is shown by said fish sparkling.
You can explore a vast array of underwater locations, such as coral, icy underwater areas, the open ocean and even underwater ruins. You also have some in-game tasks such as looking for treasure, filling a "study book" with every kind fish you come across, become a tour guide and take photos.
On top of all that, you can also go diving with a friend online via WiFi Connection. Doing so lets you explore at will with a friend, and exchange pre-set messages using the D-pad.
Forever Blue is due out in Japan on the 2nd August, and in Europe in Q4 2007.
