News: Free 3DS Messaging Tool Revealed

Nintendo will finally be allowing 3DS users to communicate with each other...

While many 3DS owners have been calling for a simple messaging system for a while now, Nintendo has gone and done the characteristic thing by taking the time to create a comprehensive application for it.

It will be called Nintendo Letter Box over here - perhaps a bit more bland than the North American name, Swapnote. It will allow users to create messages to send over SpotPass and StreetPass. 3D photos can be shared between friends, and messages can either be written, or they can be voice-recorded with the microphone.

We think of it as a modern-day version of the DS' Pictochat. While it seems to be very much its own thing, it may well become the de facto method of quick-messaging between 3DS friends. Here is Satoru Iwata revealing the application.

Nintendo Letter Box will be downloadable for free in December.
