News: Gaijin Games Has Wii U Dev Kit?

The indie dev behind the Bit.Trip series teases... something...

Gaijin Games could be the latest developer to acquire an early Wii U development kit. That was the message intimated by a recent tweet from the studio who won many fans with the WiiWare Bit.Trip games:

"I wonder what this mysterious device on my desk is... Let's see... It has a giant touchscreen, a camera, microphone... It's white... Hm..."

The studio denied that the cryptic tease alluded to an iPad, so rational thought would have that the likeliest possibility is a Wii U controller.

We know that established developers and publishers have had development kits for months now, but it's more interesting to think that such a small indie developer would have a unit so far prior to the console's launch. Perhaps it's a sign of Nintendo engaging with smaller developers to bolster its strategy in the online space.

Gaijin's Alex Neuse stated back in August that he would like to see the studio's games on as many platforms as possible, and showed interest in Wii U. Indeed, the HD sequel to Bit.Trip Runner is skipping out on WiiWare, so that would be the first natural fit for Nintendo's next gen platform.

Wii and 3DS retail compilations of the Bit.Trip franchise are heading to Europe next year.
