News: Gajin Games Calls Circle Pad Add-On "Crap"

Alex Neuse has some very strong works about the recently announced circle pad add-on.

Last week's unveiling of a Nintendo 3DS add-on that gave it a second circle pad resulted in many strong feelings from fans. In an interview with Tiny Cartridge Gajin Games' Alex Neuse gave his opinion on it and he certainly doesn't seem happy.

Upon being asked about it by Tiny Cartridge Mr. Neuse describes the expansion as "total crap" and "very frustrating" for consumers. He echoes what a number of fans have said; this is a stop gap until a 3DS redesign comes out and he's being made to wait until he can give Nintendo even more money. Speaking about the expansion from a developer's point of view Alex Neuse offered this:

"Also, as a developer, it's a bummer whenever first parties come out with something like this. Whether it's the Expansion Slide Pad, Wii Motion Plus, PlayStation Move, or Kinect, developers have a hard decision to make about whether they want to support the new features of the hardware.

From one perspective, new hardware is very exciting, but from another perspective, it's very risky; because if your game requires it, that means that you're forcing the player to have that hardware. And not all consumers will have bought the new device."

He then concluded by referring to it as a "bummer all around" in his opinion.

However, the rest of the interview does focus on the upcoming Bit.Trip Saga for the Nintendo 3DS and he discusses how nice the game looks on the console's screen, the evolution of the franchise and teases that a future Bit.Trip project will be announced in October.
