News: GAME not to sell Modem *
Posted 11 Mar 2003 at 09:16 by Tim Symons
First Dixons drops the GameCube entirely, now GAME announced it is not selling the Broadband Adapter or Modem for the GameCube. Though they state their reason the instability of Sega's network. GAME is the UK's largest videogame retailer, with over 330 stores spread out across the nation, so this must be a major disappointment for Nintendo.
It seems now GAME made the wrong decision since all online retailers sold out of their stock of Modems and Broadband Adapters.
We will try and get official comments from Nintendo on this story later today. Stay tuned...
UPDATE 13.46 - 11th of March
Cube-Europe just got off the phone with the GAME spokesperson Lisa Artemis. She told us they are not stocking it from day one because they need to know whether the product works or not before the stock it: "The reason is because we haven't been presented the products, and haven't seen the online game service working in totality. It is purely a customer service issue."
She continued saying they never said they are never going to stock the Nintendo GameCube Modem or Broadband Adapter. Before they stock it though, GAME would like to see the products working and or get some feedback from people who have tried the product.
The decision not to stock the product yet thus is purely a customer service issue. They are however, stocking Phantasy Star Online for the Nintendo GameCube as a standalone product.
