News: GAME Seeking Buyer to Survive - Report

Troubled high-street retailer in further measures to avoid administration...

Game Group PLC, owner of retail chain GAME, has reportedly put itself up for sale in order to avoid imminent administration, according to the Sunday Times (via Reuters)

The report states that the company is seeking to find a buyer within the next two weeks so that it can pay its quarterly rent bill and avoid administration. The retailer has around 1270 branches across Europe and Australia.

US retailer GameStop is thought to be interested in making a move for GAME's Spanish division, but sources of the Sunday Times admit that finding a buyer for the whole company in such a time frame "could be a problem".

The report comes shortly after the very public breakdown of GAME's relationship with many of its key suppliers, with major publishers like Nintendo, Ubisoft, Capcom, and Electronic Arts all seeing their latest releases abruptly pulled from the retailer.
