A Nintendo Rep has apparantly responded to an email, confirming that friend codes will be making a return...
The road towards the ultimate truth has been a very rocky one, with twists and turns at every corner. "We shall be using one code! We shall be using many codes! We don't know! There is no spoon!" It's a very confusing time to be a Nintendo fan.
Could the end be in sight? Those cheeky chaps over at Wii Network apparantly emailed Nintendo asking for some confirmation on whether or not we would be using one game specific friend code or not, and here was the reply:
Hello,
I can confirm that the Friend Code system in the Wi-Fi Connection (WFC) service for Wii will be the same as it was for the Nintendo DS, meaning game-specific Friend Codes and a separate Friend Roster are used in each game where players can play with identified friends. As with Nintendo DS, the system was created to ensure the gaming environment is kept fun for everyone.
We have heard from various others like you letting us know how they felt regarding Nintendo's implementation of Friend Codes in the Wi-Fi Connection service for Wii. I want you to know that we appreciate your passion and concern. Let me assure you that your concerns have been heard and will be forwarded along. As always, keep an eye on our website (www.nintendo.com) for the latest developments in Wi-Fi gaming as they are made available.
Nintendo of America Inc.
R.M. Rickets
The credibility of this Mr. Rickets is not known at this present moment in time, and it seems a bit...odd that Nintendo would choose to release this must talked about information in this manner. We'll investigate further to bring you any more information as soon as we can.
