News: GameBoy Micro Debuts With 150,000 Sold

GameBoy Micro has sold 150,000 units during its first week of release in Japan. More good sales figures inside!

Despite some early complaints over a high price tag, the latest incarnation of the GBA has sold over 150,000 units during its first seven days. 60% of Micros sold were the NES-themed version, which sold out nearly everywhere within days of its release.

In order of popularity, the other colours were silver, black, purple and blue. Even better, sales of the Micro did not mean a drop in sales of the SP and DS.

The Micro's 13th September release (Mario's 20th Birthday) saw the re-release of Super Mario Brothers as part of the NES Classics Series (called Famicom Mini in Japan). It ended up selling an unstoppable 150,000+ copies.

Capcom's Gyakuten Saiban (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney), plus Bandai's Tamagotchi: Corner Shop and Super Robot Taisen J also performed very well, in a week which saw many older GBA titles spike in sales due to all the Micros sold.

In the same week, Sony released an iPod-style white version of the PSP to tie-in with the release of Konami's Winning Eleven 9. Sales did surge, though apparently not enough to even beat the DS, let alone the rampant Micro.

As usual, we'll have detailed figures for you at the end of the week. But so far, all is looking good in Japan!
