News: GameCube stays ahead

Still beating the Xbox.

After the first two days of Mario Sunshine being on sale, we reported that the GameCube had finally pulled away from the Xbox in hardware sales. The question was if it could stay that way.

As you've already seen, Super Mario Sunshine is still at the top of the GameCube charts, but it was also enough to keep the GameCube ahead of the Xbox.

GameCube sales rose to 6,104 last week, rising from 5,860 previously, with Xbox also rising to 6,083 from 5,591 units. GBA clocked in at 8,540, up from 8,145, while PS2 sales fell slightly from 22,235 to 21,225 units. The figures are for the week ending Saturday, October 12.

Unfortunately, Hitman 2 knocked Mario off the top of the all format charts, but you must remember it's on more than one console.
