In a recent survey of Japanese gamers Mario has come out on top as their most wanted franchise to receive the 3D treatment.

Nintendo are currently celebrating Mario's 25th birthday as well as preparing the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, due out early next year. According to a recent survey of Japanese gamers this combination is close to what they want, although they'd prefer it on the big screen.

3D Radar have reported the results of a survey conducted by goo Ranking with Japanese gamers. The survey asked participants which franchises they would like to see get the big screen 3D treatment and the Super Mario series came out on top.

Other Nintendo franchises in the top 30 list include Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Bros., F-Zero and StarFox. There were also numerous cross-platform titles on the list including Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Street Fighter.

While the survey was focusing on 3D titles on home consoles Japanese gamers will no doubt rest assured that many of these requested franchises have already been announced for the Nintendo 3DS.
