News: GameStop Expects 3DS Sales Slow Down

US retailer GameStop has stated that following strong launch sales they expect 3DS sales to slow down during Q2.

Speaking to investors recently Tony Bartell, president of the US retail chain GameStop, said that the company has enjoyed strong 3DS launch sales but expects things to slow down in the coming months. The company enjoyed record sales and profits during the first quarter of 2011 and the 3DS was a large contributor.

However, according to GamesIndustry they expect sales to slow down during Q2. This echoes comments made recently by analysts who note the launch sales were under Nintendo's expectations and a lack of releases has led to a sales decline.

"I think there has been reports that the numbers are lagging from what the expectations were for the US and I think our results would be in line with that in Q2. We do expect that we will fall slightly short of what we expected. So we were excited to launch, but in Q2, we do believe that it will slightly lag our expectations."
