News: Gaming Addiction Claim Dismissed

Doctor's have dismissed claims that "videogaming addiction" should be classed as a mental illness.

First, they said Rock 'n' Roll was bad for you. Nowadays, it is videogames. Scouring the internet, it is hard not to come across a story of somebody's downfall due to videogame addiction. However, there have been claims that this addiction should be classed as a mental illness.

A debate at the American Medical Association has come to the conclusion that more research needs to be done, in order for the addiction to be classed as a mental illness, or whether to put it into the same category as drugs or alcohol addiction.

"There's nothing here to suggest that this is a complex physiological disease state akin to alcoholism or other substance abuse disorders, and it doesn't get to have the word addition attached to it," said Dr. Stuart Gitlow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

So, is 'videogame addiction' to be classed as a mental illness? Have your say below.
