Mad Catz are to develop the first GameCube dance game, a genre that is quickly becoming popular.

Mad Catz will be developing "MC Groovz Dance Craze", the first dance game for the Nintendo GameCube. Due in America before the holiday system the game will allow GameCube owners to catch up on the popular dancing game trend.

Due to launch for $49.99 (roughly �27/�40) the game will come bundled with a dance pad, which will also be sold seperatly for $29.99 (roughly �16/�24).

The game wil feature 29 songs by contemporary artists such as Jessica Simpson, Kevin Lyttle and Jewel and "disco classics". Players will play along on a dance mat with eight-directional button controls.

"The new dance game and beat pad bundle addresses one of the hottest trends in the interactive entertainment industry by capitalizing on the very popular dancing craze," says Darren Richardson, President and CEO of Mad Catz. "The launch of the game is also an important element in our strategy to add new revenue streams that leverage the capabilities of our existing business. Mad Catz supplies dance pads to many of the leading video game retailers in the world. Publishing dance games to be used in conjunction with those pads is a natural product extension."

Four game play modes will be included in the game, all of which have Easy, Moderate and Expert difficulty settings. Details are below.

  • Just Dance: single player dancing
  • Dance Together: two-player collaborative dancing
  • Dance Face Off: two-player competitive dancing
  • Dance Workout: Fitness mode with calorie counter
