News: Golden Joystick Award Winners

The masses have spoken, and Nintendo walk away with a nice gong or two.

The 26th annual Golden Joystick awards have come and gone. Every year, gamers in their thousands voice their support on all the big games, names and retailers. This year's was hosted by comedian Frankie Boyle, and while a particular Call of Duty 4 scooped the most awards, it wasn't all bad news for Nintendo.

Awards of note included Super Smash Bros. Brawl picking up the Nintendo Game of the Year award, while Guitar Hero III was crowned Family Game of the Year. Link's DS masterpiece, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was the rightful winner of the best portable game, Play.com went away happy in the knowledge it was Retailer of the Year and Activision was ecstatic to win Publisher of the Year, and have their Call of Duty: World at War nab the "One to watch" gong.

Unfortunately, there was no sign of any other Wii games in the winners list, such as the sublime Mario Kart Wii or the madness of No More Heroes. We never had much faith in the British public anyway...

You can check out the full list of winners at the official site.
