News: Golden Joystick Awards 2010 Winners

The winners of the Golden Joystick Awards 2010 have just been announced and we have them here for you!

As the cream of the gaming crop gathered in the events room we clambered in the back and set up our laptops and got ready to type away. We were treated to an opening introduction by Rich Lee full of jokes and swearing, certainly not a talk for the children. After commenting on the Carbury's takeover, America's debt and washboard abs we moved onto the awards themselves.

An introductory video informed attendees that 1,543,308 votes had been cast this year for the awards, the highest they had ever received. First up was Nuts cover girl Leah Francis to host the Action Game of the Year award sponsored by Nuts. After a bit too much wolf whistling the winner was announced as Assassin's Creed 2, followed by Batman Arkham Asylum and Red Dead Redemption.

Following this the Official Nintendo Gaming Magazine's Neil Long hosted the Fighting Game of the Year which was won by Super Street Fighter IV, followed by Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny.

Next up was Green Man Gaming's Paul and Rachel as they hosted the Download game of the year. Plants vs. Zombies won first place and was followed by Battlefield 1943 and Call of Duty: World at War: ZOMBIES.

To host the Music game of the year award Total Film's Editor-in-Chief Aubrey Day came on stage. While The Beatles: Rock Band came in third and DJ Hero in second it was Guitar Hero 3 who won.

Bringing gaming into your hands is Portable game of the year award which was hosted by Habbo's exec vice president Phil Guest. The public named Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver winner followed by Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines and Plants vs Zombies.

T3's Nile Fergurson hosted the Racing game of the year award as Forza Motorsport 3 raced ahead of Need for Speed: Shift and Colin McRae: Dirt 2 to win the award.

Alexander from Metal Hammer gave out the Soundtrack of the year award to Final Fantasy XIII with Brutal Legend and Assassin's Creed II trailing just behind.

Matt Tundy from GamesRadar.com came onto stage to host the RPG game of the year award. Mass Effect 2 won the title this year and was followed by Fallout 3 and Final Fantasy XIII.

Charlotte Martin from NGamer's hosted the puzzle game of the year award which was won by World of Goo. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box came 2nd and Scribblenauts came 3rd.

Sports game of the year Mousebreaker.com Alan resulted in Fifa 10 taking home the Golden Joystick. This was followed by Wii Sports Resort and Skate 3 in 3rd place.

GVG's Tim Ingham hosted the Online Game of the year award, an award for games that are ONLINE available to play online. League of Legends won but couldn't make it but did promise to create treats for their fans. Second place went to Aion while the Facebook game Farmville came in third.

Strategy game of the year was hosted by PC Gamer's Tim Edwards and crowned Plants vs Zombies the award, making the first game to get two awards this year. The Sims 3 came second and was followed by Age of Empires III.

Shooter of the year was hosted by Nathanial and Johnny from ITN Games. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 won it this year followed by Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.

Edge International and PC Gamer's head James hosted British Developer of the Year in which Codemasters came third, Rockstar North second and the winner this year was Jagex for the second year in a row.

Next up we had the MSN One to Watch title which was hosted by MSN's Nick Taylor. This is for games host after the 22nd of May and was won by Call of Duty: Black Ops, just ahead of Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The last award of the day was Ultimate Game of the Year and the most sought after of the year. Hosted by GamesMaster's Robin this award which was between 20 different titles this year. Third place was given to Assassin's Creed II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was second and the winner was EA's Mass Effect 2.
