Two Activision Wii FPS battle it out, but the British secret agent holds his own against the monolithic war series...
Activision are hoping 2010 will offer a lucrative Christmas period in the way of Wii FPS titles. At the start of the month, the publisher released Eurocom's reimagining of the N64 classic GoldenEye 007, and just a week later, the behemoth Call of Duty franchise hit the console with its latest iteration Black Ops. But which has done a better job of winning over gamers' hearts?
Well it looks like the early round goes to Bond. In the latest UK charts, released every Monday by GFK Chart-Track, GoldenEye 007 has held its position firm at number 4 for its second week in the full price Wii chart for the week ending November 13th. Call of Duty: Black Ops - released November 9th - makes its debut in the Wii chart at number 5. The top three remained unchanged with Just Dance 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Party taking first, second and third, respectively.
It's obviously way too early to predict that GoldenEye will continue to outpace Black Ops, and charts can be misleading in that they give little indication of actual commercial performance. But in general, early signs for Bond fans are positive. A typical media black-hole emanating from Activision surrounding the Wii version of Black Ops would have no doubt hindered its performance, but word-of-mouth will be crucial to help these two well-received Wii shooters reach big numbers over the holiday period.
Our review of Call of Duty: Black Ops can be expected shortly. Still on the fence over GoldenEye? Read Mark's verdict here.
