News: HD GoldenEye Developed Alongside Wii Version

The Xbox 360 and PS3 GoldenEye: Reloaded was in development at the same time as GoldenEye: 007.

Last year Activision released GoldenEye: 007 for the Wii, a remake of the classic N64 title from Rare. Fans rejoiced that they were getting a FPS game that they hoped it would prove that the Wii audience is eager for more 'hardcore' titles. The game even sold pretty well, outselling Call of Duty for a while, but Activision has recently announced plans for a Xbox 360 & PS3 version.

GoldenEye: Reloaded will be released later this year and rather than greenlighting the game based on the Wii version's success it seems Activision has been working on it for a number of years. Speaking to Kotaku Activision's James Steer stated that development began while they were still working on the Wii version, claiming that it was put on the back-burner until the Wii version was finished so as not to disturb the team.

When he was asked why they released the Wii version first and didn't announce the 360 and PS3 version until recently Mr. Steer stated that it was to honour the game's N64 history and give fans what they wanted.
