News: High Voltage Praise DS' Importance

High Voltage Software has lauded the impact the DS has had on gaming in the last ten years.

Developers from the upcoming Conduit 2 spoke to MTV about everything from their biggest inspirations to their career lows. Design director David Pellas and producer Keith Hladik were asked what they think has been the most important thing to happen to gaming in the last ten years. Mr. Hladik's response praised the importance of the DS:

"As for the most important thing in 10 years? If I have to reduce it down to one thing, I'm going to have to say the Nintendo DS. I think it got the ball rolling for where we are at today. It paved a new road and set up the industry for the introduction of gaming to new demographics as well as the future acceptance and rapid success of the Wii to the now abundance of more casual 'on-the-go' gaming. A gaming device that has two screens and one is a touch screen how crazy is that? Back when it came out it was a pretty wild idea, but now we're seeing the success of iOS and Android games due to this very important and key feature. You have to give Nintendo credit for reinvigorating the industry again much like what they did for gaming in the 80's with the NES."

While High Voltage Software has not worked on any DS games a port of Conduit 2 has been shown off for the 3DS. At the moment it is classed as a tech demo, to prove what the console is capable of, but High Voltage Software has confirmed they are working on a title for the 3DS.
