News: How Miyamoto Learnt English

A new Iwata Asks informs us about how Shigeru Miyamoto learnt English.

To coincide with the Japanese release of Star Fox 64 3D Nintendo has released a brand new Iwata Asks. The interview is currently only available in Japanese, with an official translation presumably due when the game is localised in America, but Andriasang has translated an interesting fact to add to our collective gaming trivia knowledge.

Dylan Cuthbert, Q Games president who worked on the original Star Fox as a programmer and is acting as a director on the remake, originally flew to Japan when he was 18 to show off a 3D Game Boy engine. On his way back he picked up a Japanese language book and upon his return could write hiragana. He then began exchanging language lessons with Shigeru Miyamoto as the pair developed their second languages.

So there you have it. Had it not been for Star Fox Shigeru Miyamoto would not have begun to learn English, at least not until later. Expect more information from the Star Fox 64 3D Iwata Asks column upon its official translation.
