News: How the 3DS Works

The 3DS manages to produce a 3D display without glasses but has left many people wondering how. Jeff Grubb from Kombo explains exactly how Nintendo manage this.

Nintendo's 3DS is undoubtedly a clever piece of technology that not only captures the industry's current favourite visual trick but also does it without those pesky glasses. Since being showcased at E3 some people have been wondering exactly how Nintendo have done it, but Kombo's Jeff Grubb is on hand to outline exactly how its done.

The technology is, in its own way, quite simple really. Two cameras are placed side by side in the game to capture the same image from slightly different angles. These are then emitted from the 3DS by a parallax barrier, which specifically 'targets' each eye with the correct image, giving the 3D effect.

This process is fully outlined in much more detail, and with visual graphics to boot, over on Kombo so be sure to check it out.
