News: How the Japanese Industry is Helping Victims

Following Friday's earthquake and tsunami in North Japan many developers and publishers have donated money to the relief effort.

Japan was struck by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake, which in turn caused a tsunami that destroyed numerous towns in Northern Japan and claimed the lives of many of its citizens. While the extent of the damage is still being discovered several large Japanese developers and publishers have announced their attempts to help those who have suffered.

Andriasang report that Tecmo Koei is donating 10 million yen to the Japan Red Cross as well as taking donations from their employees and the general public. Sega Sammy is donating 200 million yen, Nintendo is donating 300 million yen and Namco Bandai donated 100 million yen as well as announcing plans to hold back on power by suspending operations in arcades.

300 million yen and 30,000 radios have been donated by Sony Group, while 5pb has slashed the price of the iOS Memories Off 6 T-Wave app from �2,000 to �350 and will donate all profits. Bae Yong Joon, a celebrity in Japan who has appeared in several games, is donating 73 million yen.

BlazBlue producer Toshimichi Mori is also looking at creating special downloadble content for the PS3 and 360 and donating all profits to charity. Illustrator Tatsuro Iwamoto also created this piece of Phoenix Wright artwork below, which reads "Let's work hard and not be defeated by the earthquake."
