News: Hudson Making 10+ WiiWare Games

Hudson have revealed their line-up of WiiWare titles, including a sequel to Alien Crush on the Turbografx.

Hudson have been heavily supporting the WiiWare service since the official revelation of its flagship games last October, but at a recent conference, they've gone and announced some more, along with sneak peeks at the ones we knew about already already.

The big one is Alien Crush (tentative title), a sequel to the title of the same name which was released on the Turbografx and Virtual Console. Set in a sci-fi world where aliens roam free, you must defeat the facehugging cretins by playing pinball (god help us all if Hudson somehow end up being in charge of fighting off an alien invasion). This new game in the series will support online leaderboards, and is set for a Japanese release in August.

In space, no one can hear you nudge the pinball table.

Blue Oasis: Sakana no Iyashi Kuuken is what appears to be an aquarium simulator, where you can care for your fish. Apparently, you'll be able to send fish to your friends via WiiConnect24, and the Forecast Channel is also supposed to be implemented in some way. Blue Oasis has a rather vague release date of 2008.

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...

We were in a sticky situation recently, when Hudson started releasing screenshots for 'Bomberman' without specifying whether it was the retail Wii version or the WiiWare version. Apparently, both versions of the game will run on the same engine, and the retail version will contain a story mode, multiplayer and an online battle mode, whilst the WiiWare version will be a fleshed out 8-player online battle mode with Mii functionality, and a brand new arsenal of Wiimote-operated items. The screens released today were for the WiiWare version of the game, which is scheduled for a June release in Japan.

"Tell me where the bomb is!"

Next up is Tetris, which will feature Miis, 6-player battles over Wi-Fi and a newer simplified mode for beginners.

Tetris blocks will haunt your dreams yet again like colourful, pixellated versions of Freddy Krueger.

Hudson also re-confirmed Joysound, their karaoke title for WiiWare which will work with a USB microphone (a picture from the event revealed that two microphones can be used at once in multiplayer).

Even more interesting is the fact that Hudson have over 10 WiiWare titles currently in development, including the games shown at the event. We've already seen some quality titles on the Virtual Console, let's hope their dedication to Nintendo's downloadable services continues to shine with their WiiWare games.

And don't forget about our growing WiiWare Index, compiling a full list of all announced WiiWare titles.
