News: IEA Campaign For R18+ Australian Rating

The Interactive Entertainment Association are soon to begin a campaign to introduce an R18+ rating for Australian videogames.

Australia are a bit hard done-by when it comes to the release of games intended for a mature audience in their country. Their current system only allows games rated for an audience of 15 or above to be released, whereas games such as Manhunt 2 (which recently had its UK ban overturned) are banned altogether.

However, the Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia are launching a new campaign tomorrow with the aim of convincing the government to introduce an R18+ rating into the country. The move is supported by Bond University's Interactive Australia 2009 report which claims that the average Australian gamer is now 30 years old.

SEGA previously stated that they have no intention of releasing MadWorld in Australia, Japan and Germany due to their harsh videogame censorships. The introduction of a new classification could signal the arrival of games such as MadWorld in Australia if the government agree to the IEA's proposals.
