News: Infogrames goes Zapper

Infogrames today reveals its newest game character, Zapper. Zapper will star in his own game destined for all next-gen consoles.

Zapper is a cricket. But, of course, he isn't just an ordinary cricket. He's a cricket with a whole lot of attitude and some very special abilities. And he's going to need them, too, if he's to rescue his brother from the clutches of the evil magpie queen, Maggie.

Maggie has been stealing all the shiny things in Zapper's world to furnish her nest. To provide just the right finishing touch, she decides to steal a young and particularly sparkly cricket called Zipper, who is Zapper's brother. Zapper needs to rescue his brother, and collect the magpie eggs he finds on his travels in order to prevent further destruction from Maggie's offspring. As he follows the trail of eggs through the world, Maggie's presence grows ever stronger until he eventually reaches her huge nest, decorated with all the shiny things of the world, including poor little Zipper.

Zapper's mission to rescue his brother takes him across many varied environments, including a deserted Wild West ghost town populated by the ghosts of old timers, to a verdant jungle canopy besieged by nut throwing squirrels, to a saw mill filled with hazards such as spinning blades and wood chippers. In all, there are six worlds, each containing several levels, for Zapper to conquer if he to fulfil his objective to return his brother to their tree house home. And then he's got to face the villainous Maggie in her nest...

As far as weapons are concerned, Zapper has everything he needs to help him out on his escapades: his very special zapping antennae. Players can use the antennae in any number of ways to extricate the crazy cricket from some seriously sticky situations.

Zapper's adventure utilises classic 'avoid 'em up' action, as well as puzzle solving, providing a gameplay experience that everyone will enjoy. New gamers won't be intimidated, and are treated to a gentle learning curve, while, later on, there are dextrous manoeuvres and brain-teasing puzzles that will challenge even the most experienced gamers.

As well as the single player fun, there is also support for up to four players to compete head-to-head in mini-games.

Being produced by the same team that made the best-selling Frogger 2, Zapper's unique, irreverent personality ensures his game will be fun and exciting. See for yourself when it is published for PS2, Xbox, and PC in November 2002, and for GameCube and GameBoy Advance in February 2003.
