News: Initial Game Boy Micro Sales Brisk

The Micro has hit Japan, and at first blush the sales are strong...

According to a Reuters report, the intitial sales of Nintendo's new Game Boy Micro system have proven "better than expected". The Micro, though thus far not experiencing initial sales as strong as its older brothers the SP and the original GBA, is nontheless on its way to meeting Nintendo's goal of 4 million units sold worldwide by next March.

Priced a decent amount above the SP model (at $99 in the US and 99 euros in Europe), the Micro is nontheless targeted at a different consumer group, one more prone to shell out money for the latest sleek gadgets. Out of the total of five seperate colors released in Japan on September 13th, the top seller has hands down been the limited edition (and gorgeous) Famicom model that celebrates the 20th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

The Micro is scheduled to be released next in the US on September 19th (in a silver or black package that each contains two additional faceplates), followed by the European launch on November 4th (featuring a color choice of silver, pink, green and blue).
