It seems some in the "mainstream media" are a little confused as to what the Wii U actually is.

Since the Nintendo E3 Press Conference ended last Tuesday it became clear on a few message boards around the internet that some people watching missed the part where Reggi said the "Wii U" was a brand new console. Thinking instead that the "Wii U" was the controller that was given centre stage and was but yet another add-on to the Wii.

Apparently it wasn't just a few members of the general gaming public that were confused. But also British Newspaper The Daily Star, which has claimed on it's website and paper that Nintendo "have announced a new controller for the Wii". The very short article then goes on to describe the controller and mentions the current lack of pricing or exact release date.

While Nintendo wanted to focus on their latest control innovation; it appears the decision to not show off the actual console behind it at the conference, if even for a brief look, has caused some confusion in some places.
