News: Iwata Admits Poor E3 2009 Keynote

Nintendo's Satoru Iwata comments on what went wrong at E3 this year, and hints at ways of fixing it up for next year...
E3 2009 was a big event this year with all three major hardware companies releasing new information about their software lineup and new hardware for us to look forward to. Microsoft impressed spectators worldwide with their controller-free gaming via Project Natal, and Sony had their very own motion sensing controller to show off.
Unfortunately both these huge stories and more overshadowed a lot of Nintendo's big announcements during their keynote this year, and Iwata explains how the New Super Mario Bros. Wii showing was a let-down:
It is apparent that we could not fully convey the charm of our products [at E3]. In the past, Wii Sports and Wii Fit were naturally able to convey their appeal on stage. [...] This year, however, with the New Super Mario Bros. Wii, four people lined up with Wii Remotes was not a scene that no one had ever seen. Those who actually had the chance to play understood how the game would change with four people playing simultaneously, but we could not address that fun sentiment at the media briefing.
Iwata also goes on to acknowledge the growing number of people watching the press conferences online and how to go about addressing and pleasing them in the future:
Now we strongly feel that we need to look into finding a better way to demonstrate the products' appeal better at E3 in these times where more people are watching it online via web cast not only in the U.S. but all around the world. In that sense, we learned many lessons from this year's E3 show.
Given these comments, can we expect to see a showing from Nintendo next year that is geared more towards gamers and fans watching from around the world? Only time will tell.
