News: Iwata Asks About 3DS

The latest in the 'Iwata Asks' series is all about Nintendo's upcoming handheld.

In a few months the 3DS will be available in all territories and Nintendo's President Satoru Iwata has sat down to chat to Shigeru Miyamoto and Shigesato Itoi all about the handheld. The discussion begins by outlining the handheld, what it does and what gamers can expect. Previous approaches to 3D graphics are mentioned, including the Virtual Boy, and Iwata notes that even the GameCube had the potential to display 3D images.

The discussion does not feature many new exciting details but it is a fascinating read that provides insight into the history, development and potential future for the 3DS. It can be read over on the Nintendo website right now.

Satoru Iwata: Virtual Boy was, I think, a commercial failure. Normally, I think it would have been understandable if Nintendo experienced a kind of trauma with regard to the whole 3D genre. But Nintendo continued to doggedly make attempts in 3D technology. And you could say that those attempts have now finally borne fruit. I feel like that is an interesting progression of topics.
