To celebrate Mario's 25th anniversary, Nintendo has decided to release a Red coloured edition of the Wii for Japan this November 11th, with a red Wii Remote Plus and Nun-chuck and a special edition of the original Super Mario Bros pre-loaded into the Wii, with some design changes made. An example that Nintendo provided was that the coin box now shows a "25" as seen below.
Along with this anniversary edition, the new Wii Remote Plus controllers will be for sale on the same day. The new remote will be both the same size and price as the original Wii remote and colours on launch will include white, black, blue, pink and red. The only real known difference is the words "Wii Motion Plus Inside" at the bottom of the Wii Remote.
There has been no word of a Mario anniversary edition or date for the Wii Remote Plus outside of Japan just yet. But stick to N-Europe for details.
