Nintendo of Japan has special plans for the DS online!
Reports coming in from website watch.impress.co.jp are all suggesting that Nintendo is gearing up for the launch of the DS wireless online service in a big way!
According to the report, Nintendo are planning to set up 1,000 new wireless hotspots across Japan for general DS usage! Those people going online from home using their wireless router will only have to make minimal adjustments to their router to ensure what is promised to be a smooth and efficient service.
Furthermore, accessing from a Nintendo hotspot will not require any complicated setting-up or password entry, just turn on and play!
The reports do mention, however, that some third-party companies will be allowed to charge for the use of certain games, such as online RPGs and their like. What this actually means at this stage is unclear, we will have to be patient and wait and see what these unnamed "third parties" have in store for us. A MMORPG on the DS? That'd sure be nice, daddy!
As for Europe... it's always difficult to tell what Nintendo is thinking, but with recent explosions in the popularity of online games such as World Of Warcraft and Guild Wars, Nintendo must sit up and take note of the interest in multiplayer gaming that is growing in the territory.
