News: Japanese Wii & DS Sales Slow Down

The week just gone has seen the DS fall below 100,000 units sold for the first time this year.

Though Nintendo's Wii and DS still rule the roost at the top of the Japanese charts, their lead may be starting to falter. The DS has sold over 100,000 units per week during the year so far, though this slowed to 94,000 in the week just gone.

On the home console front, Wii sales fell last week to 39,000, with PS3 sales increasing over the seven day period to 18,068. Meanwhile, Microsoft's Xbox 360 is still lagging behind the other consoles with a pitiful 1,600 units sold.

Though Nintendo's pace may be slowing, the company still has a healthy lead and a massive comparative install-base. It remains to be seen whether Nintendo can reconjure momentum in the forthcoming holiday period.
