News: Key Nintendo Project Hitting Late '09?

GameStop's CEO suggests Nintendo are preparing a "key" game for release later this year...

When surveying future trends of the market, the CEO of massive North American games retailer GameStop is probably a fairly good place to go for some on-target speculation. Interviewed by CNBC, GameSpot's big cheese Don Matteo has spoken on what Nintendo might be preparing for the latter half of 2009.

Nintendo have yet to cut the price of the Wii at all since launch - and, let's face it, with such consistently strong demand for the console it would make no business sense to do so. That being said, the Big N is making more and more profit each year as production costs lower - and Matteo thinks that the time is right for Nintendo to therefore cut the RRP of the console.

Software-wise, he also expects a very big game from Nintendo themselves to hit "by the end of the year:"

"We think there will be a Nintendo key property coming out by the end of the year. They haven't given us any insight, but they have told us to reserve [shelf] space."

What springs to mind initially is the newly announced Zelda title for the DS, Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Though now that title now out in the open, speculation is rife Nintendo have something else up their sleeves...
